Ukraine has become a donor of the United Nations World Food Program, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Yeliseyev said at an international conference entitled “The World Crisis: The Security Consequences and Challenges to a Wider Europe,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has told UKRINFORM.

“I see that Ukraine has a significant role in assisting the mitigation of the negative effects of the food crisis,” he said.

“I say this deliberately to show once again that no matter how the EU rejects Ukraine, it should understand sooner or later that there cannot be a competitive European Union without Ukraine,” Yeliseyev said.

In 2009, Ukraine became a donor of the UN World Food Program for the first time after passing 1,000 tons of wheat to Ethiopia. Grain was officially passed on July 22.
