Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn says that a Ukraine - Russia conflict on the Crimean peninsula is impossible.

He made a statement to this effect in London Monday, during a meeting with members of the Select Foreign Affairs Committee headed by Mike Gates.

“Anything like that in Crimea is absolutely impossible,” Lytvyn stated asked by the committee members about the possibility of a Caucasus-like conflict in Crimea.

“Russia is not taking any effort to destabilize the situation in the peninsula. It was destabilized by Ukrainian politicians of extreme political orientations,” the Ukrainian Speaker noted.

At the same time, he said the official Kyiv lacks an effective and wise policy concerning the autonomy.

Touching on the Ukraine - Russia relations in the field of energy saving, Lytvyn noted: “I realize that this problem would not become so acute if Ukrainian politicians would speak one language.”
