In Brussels President Victor Yushchenko met with the President of the Senate of Belgium Armand De Decker and the President of Belgian Chamber of Representatives Patrick Dewael.

During the meeting sides have discussed European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Ukraine and their support from the Belgian parliament. They also talked over the possibility of expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation between Ukraine and Belgium and as well as the trends in modern European parliamentarism, including functioning bicameral parliaments.

Ukrainian side stressed the need for affirmation of the prospects of membership prospects of our country in the EU and terms of the full cancelation of visa travel between Ukraine and the EU in the final text of the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine.

Also during the meeting the President explained the position of our country on the international recognition of Holodomor 1932-33 as the genocide of Ukrainian nation and called on Belgian parliament to approve its own decision on this issue.

During a press conference after the meeting the President stressed that Belgium is an example of a country that through grasping the tragic pages of history came to active position in establishing common European security policy, creating a single market and harmonization of political action. "This is an excellent example of how the principles of community are emerging, which can be used by dozens of countries", said Victor Yushchenko.

From his part making comments on the results of the meeting, the President of the Senate said: "We appreciate the efforts President Victor Yushchenko makes for Ukraine's rapprochement with the EU and ensuring the irreversibility of the democratic processes in Ukraine”.
